School Readiness Assessment
School readiness evaluation is an essential tool that lays the foundation for a child’s future academic success. By assessing a child’s developmental milestones, cognitive skills, and social-emotional readiness, parents can identify areas where support is needed and seek expert interventions accordingly. This proactive approach not only helps children adjust to the school environment more smoothly but also fosters a love for learning by addressing their individual needs from the very beginning. Furthermore, early evaluations empower parents, ensuring their child has access to the necessary resources and strategies that can propel them forward. Investing in school readiness evaluation paves the way for confident, resilient learners who are well-equipped to thrive in their educational journey.
Reading Assessment
Early and often reading assessment in Kindergarten through 4th grade is crucial for fostering a child’s literacy development and overall academic success. We pinpoint specific strengths and weaknesses by evaluating your child’s reading abilities at this formative stage, allowing for customized instruction that meets individual needs. Early assessments help recognize the specific growth areas, ensuring no child falls behind. Seek private reading assessment early on, and you will equip your child with the skills and confidence necessary to navigate their educational journey and instill a lifelong love for reading and learning.
Psychological Evaluation
Psychological evaluations are warranted to determine children’s strengths and weaknesses across numerous areas, such as learning, socialization, emotional well-being, and executive functioning. Specific signs of behavior may be present that trigger a discussion of such an evaluation. Examples include:
- Being destructive to self or others.
- A sudden behavior change.
- Demonstrating regressive behaviors.
- Demonstrating being withdrawn from family and social activities that previously were of interest.
- Struggling in school/preschool
This evaluation determines the underlying causes of these behaviors and provides a set of recommendations that help parents, caregivers, and teachers with tools, techniques, and strategies designed to help the child experience the world around them in a more satisfying and productive way.

Edu-Psyc evaluation
Ed-psych evaluation is often recommended when a child struggles academically despite tutoring and help after school. The goal of this evaluation is to understand where there is a discrepancy between a child’s ability and their achievement, and if so, what is the cause of the discrepancy.
The testing is typically done over two meetings during which the child is given achievement tests, an adaptive behavior rating scale, a behavior rating scale that parents and teachers complete, and cognitive tests. A final report is produced and shared with the parent.
The most important part of the report is the set of recommended strategies intended to help the child succeed academically. It is a standard practice for the clinician to review the report with parents. At the Washington Center for Learning, an experienced educator will discuss the report with parents to develop realistic strategies to incorporate into each teaching session.

Neuro-Psyc evaluation
A neuro-psych evaluation is needed when parents notice that their child or teen is experiencing severe difficulties with drugs, alcohol, eating, sleeping, social interactions, and academic achievement. Such an evaluation is often sought to better understand a person’s neurocognitive strengths and weaknesses and obtain a set of recommendations for maximizing the individual’s safety and successful daily living at home, in school, and in the community.
Neuro-psych evaluation takes several hours, depending on the case’s complexity, and results are always shared with parents or guardians. The Washington Center for Learning partners with several area clinics that provide such an evaluation.
