Tutoring

With The Washington Center for Learning, tutoring sessions are topic—and strategy-specific, implementing your strategic goals. We match you with the tutor best able to implement these goals. Often, our tutors have master’s degrees or doctorates and are certified by external boards.

Intensive Workshop

Students who have made the most progress with us were those who signed up for our intensive sessions (3 weekly individualized sessions) over an average of 8 weeks. Intensive workshops can be scheduled from September through November, January through March, and May through the end of July.

Initial Consultation

Our initial consultation determines if our team can effectively address the reason for your visit. We will discuss your goals for your child, and whether our team and process fits your family. We will explore a comprehensive strategy aimed at addressing your specific concerns and desired outcomes. Should you decide to proceed, both a timeframe and cost will be discussed.

Child Strategy Session

These sessions allow your child to practice a specific strategy for academic success.  After the strategy is explained, it is applied to a relevant academic task. This leads to a substantive growth in self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth.  These sessions revolve around concrete examples from language arts, social studies, science, or history curricula.  Initial sessions are 45 minutes but may be extended if additional time is needed to effectively practice the specific strategy taught.

School/Court Advocacy

Letting your school know you are working with an outside consultant is always best. Children make the most progress when teachers, school counselors, and families understand the academic plan, its timeline, and each professional’s role. Whether you choose a private or public school, we will help you understand the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) federal law and its provisions.

School Choice Consultation

Your child spends about half of their waking hours in school.  The school you choose should therefore embody your core values.  Together, we articulate your values.  Working closely with you, we then furnish you with a battery of questions to consider in the admissions process to help you vet schools.

Strategic Academic / Behavior Plan

The strategic plan we create for your child consists of all components necessary for your desired outcome.  Elements of this plan may include parental consultations, child strategy guidance sessions, tutoring options, school/court advocacy, local resource recommendations, writing official reports, and making recommendations for school officials.

Parent Success Strategy Sessions

These sessions present research-based and realistic strategies for advancing your goals with your child, whether at home or in school. Role-playing and discussions will build participants’ confidence in addressing behavior challenges that stand in your child’s way of functioning efficiently and successfully.
